Dr. Guadalupe (Lupita) Madrigal

Dr. Guadalupe Madrigal is a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Department of Communication at the University of Missouri, Columbia. 

She received her Ph.D. from the Department of Communication and Media at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor (with a Latino Studies certificate), and received her B.A. in Communication Studies and Chicana/o Studies from the University of California, Los Angeles.

Using quantitative methods, she researches topics related to political communication with a particular interest on media, Latinx/a/o populations, race, information, social identity, and immigration. Her dissertation was focused on news media portrayals of immigrant children in the news over the past 30 years, and the consequences of these representations in contemporary politics. She also has a vested interest in Chicanx/a/o and Latinx/a/o studies. 

She is currently a faculty organizer of the Political Communication Institute at the University of Missouri. 

Fun Facts Alert! When Guadalupe is not researching or teaching, she is dancing salsa, crocheting, sewing, or reading novels. She is also affectionately known by her nickname “Lupita.”
